Embark on a transformative musical journey as Sharon Williams (Ph.D. music), a student of the legendary Famoudou Konaté, guides you through the intricate rhythms of West Africa. In this course you will learn all the drum parts of the traditional Malinké rhythm ensemble, including djembe and dununs (low drums), and gain a profound experiential understanding of their interplay.
Drawing on her doctoral research, and extensive teaching experience, she incorporates techniques such as stepping in time and vocal percussion language, to foster a deeper connection to the rhythm.
Explore various methods of rhythm notation to create your own written records, ensuring a comprehensive understanding of the music. Come away with an audio recording of the individual drum parts at the end of the course for further study and practice.
Whether you’re a seasoned drummer or a complete novice, everyone is welcome! All drums are provided.
