A lovely opening for
A Real Shoemozzle Foundart by Peter Shoemark
One of the great quandaries facing an artist when staging an exhibition is what to call the exhibition. Not so for local junk sculptor Peter Shoemark, who was using a shoe theme, so “A Real Shoemozzle” seemed a logical name and besides what could go wrong? The original exhibition was scheduled for Nov 2021, however lockdown masked those plans, so now the exhibition will proceed from 17 March 2022 at Gallery ONE88 in Katoomba until the 28th.
Enjoy the video attached, shot at the opening on the 19th that hopefully conveys some of the intended fun and delight of this exhibition, sometimes irreverent, sometimes simply beautiful, and rest assured that these are pieces you will need to spend some time with reading the attached stories. This collection of more than 30 works will feature free-standing and wall-hanging kicky sculptures using recycled materials to bring home the artist’s personal philosophy that landfills need not be the final solution and art should be fun.
Many works will border on the surreal as “shoepidity” is fully exploited and no pun is left unturned. It is hoped that people can take off the mask, remember how to smile as the artist tries to promote the ridiculous and have fun.
The postponement of the exhibition has allowed time to review the original exhibition with several political cartoon sculptures deleted as the public has had enough of politicians as they continue to hid their anger and frustration beneath their masks.
This exhibition has provided an opportunity for Peter to play with new skills gained in completing the winter three-degree Mixed Media course at the Katoomba Campus of the Nepean Community College and break away from his normal welded works. Also included are a number of “art in a box” works, influenced by the exploitations of Marcel Duchamp and Joseph Cornell.Exhibition page here https://tinyurl.com/yc77xr9aBMCAN Creative Showcase Artists Page herehttps://bmcan.com.au/project/peter-shoemark/
